Art Internship / Earn PD Hours

Green Star Movement Internship/ Professional Development

Under the supervision of a member of the Green Star staff, interns/teacher trainees provide assistance with our program and administrative needs while gaining valuable professional experience and receiving feedback on a range of skills.

A typical day includes: 

  • Setting up materials, tile, scaffolds, mixing mortar, smashing tile, and preparing for a workday. 

  • They will be assisted by teaching artists at all times and trained on the use of tools, techniques, and working with volunteer groups or children. 

  • Their two main objectives are: One; To improve their mosaic skill and learn as much about this new art form as possible. Two; to assist the volunteers and students who work with us, to ensure they enjoy their time working and that they are following the proper guidelines. 

  • At the end of the day they assist with clean up and putting away materials.

Internship Requirements: 

  • This internship will be in-person and requires a flexible schedule. Interns must be able to work during regular business hours during the week of April 3-7 in Bolingbrook. 

  • Interns must be able to commit to 12-15 hours a week- (This is flexible for Bolingbrook students/trainees)

  • Try to have at least two days available Monday  Friday, to work.

  • This is an unpaid Internship- however, many colleges and universities provide grants, stipends, etc. for non-profit internships like ours- Consult with your counselor to see if you qualify.

  • Valley View 365u will accept hours worked towards professional development certification hours, check with your district.

Mural Arts Program Interns will:

  • Gain skills in the fundamentals of bricolage mosaic (tiling, grouting, mirror-cutting, sculpture, mixing/coloring mortar, etc.)

  • Develop relationship-building skills with youth (4th-12th grade)

  • Teach/lead a small group of students or volunteers in tasks and activities

  • Prepare the work site for the day’s tasks and conduct clean up

  • Be able to teach/lead a small group of students or volunteers in tasks and activities

  • Be able to give positive, constructive feedback to youth and volunteers.
